Happy new year everyone! So before I get started, I have a confession to make: I was supposed to have my new blog theme up by the new year, but perfectionism got the better of me, so that’s still a work in progress. But, that’s not to say there’s nothing new for 2015!
Rebranding Geeky Posh
The theme might still be in progress, but I was able to finalize the logos during the holidays! For someone who was never any good at logo design, I’m pretty pleased with the final work! I came up with several variations, but not all of them will be used. If follow me on Twitter, Facebook, or Google+, you’ll see that the cover photos have been updated with the new logo and design scheme. What do you all think?
As part of the rebranding process, I’ve also switched up the post categories a bit and introduced some new ones. Geeky Posh needs to live up to its name!
Introducing: The Beauty Docket
Previously I’ve had a “Products I Love” section, where I would review my favorite beauty products. The problem is, I’m very picky and most products I’ve tried don’t make the cut. So rather than just review products I love, I decided to review all beauty products I’ve tried – the good, bad, and ugly – and rename this section to “The Beauty Docket“.
Also, I didn’t like the idea of dedicating an entire blog post to an individual product review. It’s too narrow of a niche to be of interest to most of my reader, as evidenced by my single product review posts from 2014. Instead I’ll do a weekly or monthly summary post of all the reviews that’s been added to the docket, highlighting products that really stood out for me.
Better lens = better photos?
One of my blogging goals of 2015 is to take better photos for my posts. That means no more using the “creative auto” mode on my DSLR (I know, shame on me) and mastering the manual mode. Also, I finally invested in the Canon 50mm f1.8 prime lens (thanks to a very helpful review from Cat) and did away with the kit lens that came with my Canon T3. I think my photos are looking better already!
No more giveaways
I was going to write a whole post about this, but that might be too much. Basically, I’m done with hosting giveaways, at least for now. Not that I’m stingy or don’t like giving, I just HATE people who join just because they want free stuff. There’s a term even for these greedy lechers: sweepers. The main goal of giveaways, at least for me, is to giveback to my readers. Not so some random person can score free goodies.
Looking at the entries of my Giving Thanks Giveaway, more than half of them are from these sweepers (their Twitter timeline is a dead giveaway). Some have resorted to cheating (multiple submissions) in order to win, and I had to disqualify the first 2 “winners” as a result. Upon confirming the winner on 12/24, I noticed that some of these sweepers immediately unfollowed me on Twitter. Ouch.
Trust me, I’ve been racking my brains out for a way to host giveaways without attracting these sweepers (aka giveaway roaches), and when I do, I’ll be sure to host giveaways again :)
Trust me, there are a lot more new things to come for this blog in 2015, and hopefully by the end of this week the new theme will be one of them! Until then!
