There is a reason why I use brightening masks religiously: fairer skinned people can pull off lighter lip colors without looking completely washed out. I’m currently a NW25, so a warm, light-medium skin tone. I’ve been on the search for the perfect baby/nude pink lipstick, but a lot of them have blue undertones, which accentuates the yellowness in my skin, making me look waxy. It also doesn’t help that I have naturally darker lips :/ After much searching, I found that 2 products that give me the perfect result :)
The Maybelline lipstick by itself is quite sheer, but it does add a light pink wash + shimmers. Because of its frosty nature, you’ll need to make sure your lips are nice + moisturized or else the frost/shimmer will accentuate the chapped areas. Luckily the lipstick itself is really moisturizing, and it’s a warm milky pink rather than a cool baby pink.
But to really get the baby/nude pink lips, I add a layer of VS lip gloss in Innocent – a neutral milky pink gloss with fine shimmers – on top of Sugar Plum Ice. The gloss adds another deposit of milky pink color, as well as make my lips appear fuller and plumper. If you have NARS lip gloss in Turkish Delight, you can use that instead, since the VS one is supposed to be a dupe of that. The final results?
If you want more color, just apply a thicker layer of Innocent. I’ve been wearing this lip color recently as part of my spring makeup look, but if you can also pair these lips with a smokey eye look. Just tone down on the lip gloss, since most of the color will be coming from that. Or if you naturally have lighter colored lips, you can get away with just using the lip gloss :)
Becca asked in the comments below how my lips look without the lip gloss, so here it is. It does give my lips a wash of baby pink, but without the wet look of the gloss. I suppose if you have lighter lips you might be able to get away with just the lipstick as well. I personally like the lipstick + gloss combo more ;)
What are your favorite lip colors or products? I’d love to know :D
