Summer skincare essentials: moisturizers and sunscreen
The weather is getting warmer and the days are getting longer, which means…summer is almost here :D The summer solstice is on Wednesday June 20th this year, but it doesn’t mean you have to wait till then to switch to your summer beauty routine. Here is part 1 of my summer skincare essentials.
Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief
I have normal/combination skin so the summertime means extra oily t-zones for me, which means bye-bye rich winter moisturizer, and hello light ones! This is what I’ve been using as my night cream, and while it’s very hydrating, it’s not oily or heavy at all.
I fell in love with this when I tried a sample, and that’s when I proceded to get the full size product. I love the texture – gel-like, yet very moisturizing. My skin feels very soft and supple after applying this, and when I wake up the next morning, it’s still hydrated and supple. Clinique is great for people who have sensitive skin or prefer fragrance-free products.
As with most department store products, this is a bit on the expensive side. However, I think it’s definitely worth it, especially if you buy it when they’re having a promotion. I got mine along with 2 makeup bags and lots of full-size and trial-size samples :]
Yves Rocher’s Sebo Specific Zero Blemish Pore Refining Care
I mentioned this in my skincare routine a while back, and after a year of using it, I’ve come to really like it, especially in the summer time.
I find myself using this whenever the weather gets warmer to help control oil and shine, for which it does a great job. As for the pore minimizing part, my mom swears by this, but I can’t really tell. I use this in the mornings on my t-zones only, right before I apply my sunscreen.
Yves Rocher always has some sort of promotion going on, whether it’s buy 1 get 1 free or 50% off, so usually I can get this for around $12, which isn’t bad at all.
Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Jelly Water Base SPF30 PA+++
I don’t like how most daytime moisturizers here come with only SPF15, which isn’t enough for me. Luckily I was able to pick this up when I went back to Taiwan, and it’s been my HG morning lotion/sunscreen ever since.
This sunscreen feels incredibly lightweight, not greasy, and leaves no white residue or weird tint, which I found amazing. It’s also surprisingly moisturizing for a sunscreen, thanks to the hyaluronic acid it contains. It’s marketed as a moisturizer + makeup base + sunscreen in one, and I couldn’t agree more :D
Worth every penny, and even when you buy it from Ebay at $16, I still think it’s worth it. It’s just such a great product and really changed my perception on sunscreen.
Shiseido Anessa Perfect Sparkle Sunsreen SPF 50 PA+++
I use normally use the Biore sunscreen, but for long days at the beach, I need at least an SPF 50, and something waterproof. This sunscreen has been my HG skincare product for a while now, and I think they recently changed packaging. Mine is still the old packaging:
For a day at the beach or outdoors, this is just perfect. It does a great job of keeping me from getting tanned or burned, and it’s extremely water- and sweat-proof. It’s a bit oilier than the Biore one, but still tolerable. It also brightens and leaves your skin sparkling (very subtly, nothing Edward-like) after application, which can be a turnoff or on, depending on your likes.
I can’t remember the exact price, but I think it’s around $50, which is quite expensive for the amount of product you’re getting. If I were to use this on my body as well, I’d run through the bottle before my beach trip was over -_- Shame, because I don’t want my body to tan either D:
That’s it for part 1 featuring my summer moisturizers and sunblocks, stay tuned for part 2 :D Meanwhile, I’d love to know what products you guys use during the summertime!
