Just so-so: summer beauty voxbox review
A while back I was approved for the summer beauty voxbox from Influenster, which made me very excited. You all know how I love trying out new products and reviewing them :P However, when I received the voxbox, I was a little disappointed – in which universe is a banana bread snack a beauty product?
Asides from the silly banana bread, which I ate promptly out of hunger, the other products seemed hopeful:
Clear Scalp & Hair Therapy Shampoo & Conditioner: This is a nice shampoo/conditioner duo. Smells nice, lathers really well, nothing fancy. It claims to be good for the hair & scalp thanks to these “vitamins”, yet sodium laureth sulfate is the 2nd ingredient in the shampoo. That explains the nice lather -_- It does make my hair smooth, albeit a little flat.
Sally Hansen Nails & Cuticle Hand Cream: Hand & nail cream combinations are always a hit or miss for me. They’re either too oily for my hands and perfect for my nails, or too dry for my nails and perfect for my hands. This one feels very moisturizing and not oily at first, but after a while I start to feel an oily residue on my hands :( On the bright side, it smells amazing, like an orange creamsicle, yum!
Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Broad Spectrum SPF30 Sunscreen: My experience with non-Asian sunscreens is that they’re always too greasy. This one definitely changed my perspective though. It’s surprisingly light, though it still has room for improvement. But since it’s for your body, you can probably work. Not too thrilled about the scent – it’s like they haven’t updated the fragrance since the 90’s.
Sally Hansen Magnetic Nail Color in 908 Graphite Gravity: One word. Coooool. xD The instruction says to apply 1 coat, let it dry, then apply a 2nd thick coat, but I got it to work with just 1 normal coat.
Excuse the crappy paint job, but I was in a hurry, and I knew I was going to take it off after the photos anyways. That’s the one thing I don’t like, is the color – from faraway it looks almost black. Forget that I can’t wear it to work, I wouldn’t even if I could. Other than that, it’s a solid nail polish. You can apply it without the magnet and it’d look nice too.
I didn’t bother reviewing the products in the pouch, because to me, they’re all the same. I can’t really tell a difference anyways =w= Overall, I wish they had more beauty products instead of random-banana-bread-like things. Of the products I did try, the only one I’d consider repurchasing is the nail polish. While the others aren’t bad, I just think that there are better sunscreens/hand creams/shampoos/conditioners out there.
Hope you all enjoyed this mini review :)
