January 2014 BeautyBox 5 Review
I love beauty subscriptions because it’s like getting a surprise gift every month, and who doesn’t like gifts? Overall I was pleased with the December 2013 BeautyBox 5, so I was really looking forward to this month’s subscription, especially since they hinted that there would be a product from H2o+. Let’s take a look at what’s in the box!
First impression: not so good. I mentioned in my last post that BeautyBox 5 offers some very practical and utilitarian samples, but this time the products border on the line of boring.
- H2O Plus Spa Sea Lotus Body Wash – $17.00
I was so disheartened when I saw that the H2O+ product ended up being a body wash. Really?? As much as I love this brand, I’d never pay double digits for body wash unless it was made of liquid gold. The scent is quite nice, but not $17 nice. Next!
- Nubar Cuticle & Nail Oil – $10.00
As someone with awful cuticles, I could definitely use some sort of cuticle oil or balm. This one has a nice scent and isn’t too greasy, which can be good or bad, depending on your needs. For me I was hoping for something with a little more oomph, as my nails are quite dry. The brush makes for an easy application though, so you know you’re not getting oil all over the place.
- Swissco Bath & Shower Exfoliating Gloves – $5.00
First the foot pumice and now these – is God trying to tell me something? Thankfully these are much more practical and not too rough on my skin. They actually remind me of the washcloths I used to use as a kid! Though quite useful, it’s something I would never purchase.
- Jergens Daily Moisturizer – $6.99
The saddest product in the box IMO. I don’t use lotion much as is, and I’m very particular when it comes to the ones I do use. On the bright side, I now have another lotion to keep in one of my purses. Yay?
- Epic Blend Hemp Coconut Lip Balm – $3.39
I was not impressed by its packaging, but the scent drew me in – it smells like a delicious pina colada! However, what really impressed me was how it moisturized my lips without making it waxy or oily. I’ve been using this non-stop lately, and I love that it’s all natural and not animal tested. Bonus points for the low price!

- That Awkward Moment Mirror Compact
This was a bonus product, and while it was nothing amazing, a girl could always use an extra mirror compact I suppose.
Much like last month’s box, most products were average at best. There is always one product that ends up surprising me though, and this time it was the lip balm. Fingers crossed for next month’s box!
