I used to be able to get away with not applying any lotion after I shower, but the older I got, the more problematic my skin became -_- Now if I don’t apply lotion immediately after I get out of the shower, before I dry myself, my skin gets really dry and itchy :(
I’ve been trying out different lotions to help moisturize, but I never found the perfect one – if it smelled nice it didn’t moisturize enough, if it was moisturizing then the scent was nonexistent. It took a lot of trial and error, but I’ve finally found my perfect body lotion.
Ok, so I cheated, my perfect body lotion is actually a mixture of 3 different lotions: Nivea Whitening Lotion, Victoria’s Secret body lotion, and Avon Skin-So-Soft Ultra Body Serum, occasionally with some CVS Aloe Vera Gel thrown in :P Let’s take a closer look!
The lotion I first started with was the Nivea Whitening Lotion. It’s contains Camu Camu, which has high levels of vitamin C and is supposed to help brighten your skin. The formula is light, and perfect for the hot humid weather in Taiwan (where it’s originally sold), but it’s a little lacking for the drier US weather :(
For days when my skin is acting up, I add some CVS Aloe Vera Gel to the mix. It feels cool when applied and helps calm my skin down. And the whole bottle was only around $3!
Victoria’s Secret Love Spell lotion is part of my lotion dream team mainly for its scent. Well, that’s not 100% true – I’m actually not a big fan of Love Spell, but I want to finish this bottle before I buy more. I’m not sure how much fragrance they put in there, but its scent is strong enough to drown out all the other lotions’ scents, AND it lasts all day. In terms of moisturizing it’s pretty bad, which is why I need the other products D:
I really like the Avon Skin-so-Soft Ultra Body Serum – it leaves your skin feeling soft and powdery, like a baby’s butt :P None of that greasy lotion feeling, yet your skin is moisturized. Hate the scent though, it smells like grandma x baby powder -_- Good thing my VS lotion masks this 100%
I find that a 1:1:1:1 mix is perfect, though sometimes I’ll add a bit more of the Avon body serum if my skin is extra dry or more of the VS Love Spell lotion if I want a stronger scent. And depending on how dry my skin gets in the wintertime, I’ll also switch out the Aloe Vera Gel for a body butter to get some extra moisture. My skin has a knack of being unpredictable, so in the end it’ll probably come down to trial and error. But until then, I’ll stick with this formula :)
What’s your favorite body lotion? Do you mix different lotions as well? Do share :)
