DHC skincare review
A while back I was looking for a new skin-brightening night cream and serum, and I ended up purchasing some products from DHC.
I remember trying some DHC samples in the best and being quite impressed with their products, that and their reviews are generally positive, so I was very excited to try out what I bought.
Renewing AHA Cream
I wanted to buy an AHA exfoliant to help get rid of the dullness on my skin, but the ones I’ve tried in the past have been too strong and irritated my skin. This one has a milky texture, and stings less than other brands. However, I found it a bit oily after application, though that absorbed after a while. Unfortunately, I haven’t noticed any improvements after using it twice a week for 3 weeks :(
Pros: not as irritating as other brands, very moisturizing
Cons: doesn’t work as advertised, a bit oily for combination/oily skin
Vitamin C Essence
I bought this to use a skin-brightening serum, but it turned out to be very watery. The drop tube packaging is helpful for spot targeting, but annoying for full-face applications. Because of the amount of product (0.84 fl. oz.), it’s more economical to apply directly on the face rather than on your hands. While the essence isn’t oily at all, it’s also not very moisturizing. The brightening effects are very minimal.
Pros: lightweight, non-greasy
Cons: minimal effects, difficult application
Alpha-Arbutin White Cream
Alpha arbutin is one of the key ingredients in brightening your skin, so I was excited to try this out. Though described as suitable for all skin types, it’s actually better for mature or dry skin. The cream itself is quite heavy, more so than the AHA one, and my face feels greasy after application. After using it for a couple days, I actually broke out a bit on my cheeks, which has never happened before. As with the Vitamin C essence, the effects are minimal.
Pros: very moisturizing, good for dry or mature skin
Cons: minimal effects, heavy, greasy for oily or combination skin
Overall, I was disappointed with my DHC purchases. It just goes to show that expensive products aren’t always the best. However, a perk of high end products is their wonderful customer service. DHC actually has a 60-day satisfaction guarantee in which you can return your products, new or used, if you’re not happy with them, for a full refund :) I wish I could’ve avoided this hassle, but I’m not going to just throw $100+ down the drain!
Hope everyone had a great weekend!
