Your bedroom is the first place that needs a home makeover. There’s so much decor that can be changed to suit your personality. Time to have your dream room
Many of us will spend around half our lives lying around in bed. We’ll either be sleeping, trying to get to sleep or relaxing. When you’re planning a home makeover, your place of rest needs to be at the top of the list.
If your bedroom’s looking as tired as you are at night then why not try one of our eleven makeover ideas.
Give Your Bed a New Look
There’s nothing like sleeping in your own bed. There’s also nothing like getting between fresh, clean sheets. Make a statement with a new cover for your duvet. Or, go for a colorful new comforter to keep you snug and warm at night.
Some fresh new, colorful pillowcases too can add a bit of luxury to your bedroom. Egyptian cotton with a high thread count is going to keep you nice and comfortable when you put your head down for the night.
Lamps and Handles
You may not need to change your entire bedside lamp. If the base is still fine, spice things up with a new and attractive shade. Bold patterns and textured fabric will brighten things up even when the lamp is off.
You can also update your bedroom furniture without buying new. Simply swap your existing knobs and drawer pulls for some new modern styles. You could go for chrome, painted ceramic or even a polished wood to give tired pieces a lift.
Plants Breathe Life into Your Bedroom
If you have a love of the outdoors, then you may already be considering outdoor kitchen options as part of your home makeover. Why not bring the outside in and give your bedroom a new lease of life with a few potted plants.
They not only look colorful but will help to purify the air. Go for plants that are easy to care for such as evergreens or even a peaceful lavender to help you sleep.
Ditch any plastic pots and go for a colorful ceramic to add even more style to your bedroom. A snake plant in a pretty pot is guaranteed to improve air quality. Or, how about valerian or jasmine to help gently soothe the body and mind?
Improve the Flooring
The thinner and bumpier the rug you choose, the simpler it will be it to clean. Sisal rugs are perfect for bedrooms and especially for areas that get a lot of use. The course, natural fiber will feel great on your feet too.
Silk and viscose rugs can add a bit of glamor to your bedroom decor. A rug is a useful first purchase as it means you can accessorize with other items to match.
Wool area rugs and polypropylene rugs are very durable. They’re also easy to clean and maintain. If you like to snack in bed and are prone to a few spills they could be an ideal choice.
An Accent Wall
You can make a big impact for very little cost by just giving your bedroom a fresh coat of paint. Try mixing things up a bit. You could go for a bold purple or crimson accent wall above your bed.
You could then paint the rest of the room a fresh white or cream. A soothing green color also works extremely well in bedrooms. For added effect, paint each wall a slightly different shade of the same color.
Make Things More Fun
Go for a few little extra touches around the bedroom to give it a bit of a lift. Try stringing some twinkle lights around your curtain rods or window frames.
A new mirror with a funky frame could make a new and exciting space for when it’s time to apply some makeup.
Finish things off with a netting surround for your bed hung from the ceiling to give the room a more colonial look.
Scatter Cushions and Throws
If your bedroom decor is looking a bit too neutral then invest in some scatter cushions and a new throw for the bed. If you’ve decided on an accent wall then go for colors that are going to match.
An assortment of different sized cushions can work well placed just further down the bed from the pillows. A striped or boldly patterned throw will also bring color to the room.
Declutter Your Surfaces
Free up space in your bedroom with some stylish fabric containers. You can use these to keep magazines or books in. They’re also ideal for tidying away dirty clothes until you’re ready for your next load of washing.
You should also invest in small, attractive boxes to keep on the surfaces of your bedroom furniture. They’re useful to tidy away smaller accessories and jewelry that have a habit of gathering on top of drawers.
Create a Reading Corner
If you’ve space, purchase a comfortable armchair that you’re going to like spending time sitting in. You can dress the chair with a colorful throw and cushions. Not only will it give your bedroom a new look, but it will give you a new space to enjoy.
At the same time, hang some new raw silk curtains to give your bedroom the ‘wow’ factor. Some fresh tiebacks and finials are great finishing touches.
Get the Lighting Right
Harsh overhead lighting never works well in the bedroom. The place you sleep should be a calm space and the lighting needs to be more subdued than in other rooms.
Nightstand lamps or wall sconces work very well in the bedroom. Make sure they’re near enough for bedtime reading. Adapt the strength and colors of the bulbs to suit the mood you’re trying to create.
Add a Bench as Part of Your Home Makeover
A bench at the end of the bed is going to add a touch of class. A woven bamboo or seagrass design will give the room more style and extra storage space. Natural textures work extremely well.
Improving the Look of Your Bedroom
Investing in new bedding or colorful wallpaper will help complete your home makeover. Adding those small touches will stamp your personality on the one room you’re likely to spend the most time in.
