The 10-minute face – my weekday makeup routine
I’ve gotten into the habit of applying some light makeup for work now because I realized that when I look good, I feel good. Granted I have yet to master the 5-minute face, but I think that 10 minutes is a big improvement from my usual 20-minute weekend routine, right?
In essence of time, I try to limit the number of products I use and the steps I take for my weekday morning routine. The one step I don’t skimp on is the base. My go-to foundation has been the Paul and Joe Light Cream Foundation + a bit of Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pink Transformer for a dewey natural finish.
To prevent creasing and make sure my eye makeup stays put, I prime my eye area with DHC Velvet Skin Coat. To cover my dark circles, I’m currently using the Neutrogena Healthy Skin Brightening Eye Perfector which is ok. I could definitely use something with better coverage though, so suggestions are welcome :)
Eyeshadows are a must to add some definition to my eyes, and my favorite is still the Urban Decay Naked palette. Naked is a great matte all-over color, and I use Buck + Toasted for the crease. I then finish off with KissMe Heroine Make Eyeliner for a sleek, polished look. No mascara because I wear glasses and I don’t need any smudges on my lens. Besides, the difference is barely noticeable but the time saved definitely is!
Next come the brows, which I fill in with my trusty MUGU brow palette. Blush is necessary to prevent looking washed out, and I’ve been loving the NXY Powder Blush in Angel. It’s a light muted pink with just a hint of shimmer, and it gives me the perfect flush of color. Finally I apply the e.l.f High Definition Powder all over to create a soft, diffused glow.
Of course, who can forget lips? That’s the one part of my routine that varies depending on my mood. Since the rest of my look is so neutral and light, I can pair it with pretty much any lip color. Now that it is fall, I’ve been leaning towards darker, richer tones, like the DHC Premium Lipstick GE in Velvety Red.
