Favorite lip balms for the winter season

January 31, 2014 • Beauty, Skin Care26 Comments

Happy Friday everyone! Boy am I glad it’s the weekend, and not just because I get to sleep in, but because it’s finally not going to be ridiculously cold anymore. Seriously, the insane below freezing temperature was driving me nuts, and blasting all that heat was not good for my skin, hair, or lips. Thankfully these 4 products keep my lips from drying out like an old prune.

actual product sneak peak

Dior Addict Lip Glow – $32

Definitely not the cheapest product, but it looks beautiful and it works well. This has SPF, gives my lips the perfect touch of pink, and keeps it super moisturized throughout the day. I find that I don’t have to reapply this lip balm as often as I would other ones, and even with frequent usage, I still have quite a bit of product left. Did I say I was in love with the packaging? Seriously thinking about adding my own DIY lip balm in the tube once I’m done with the product!

Dior Creme de Rose Lip Balm – $27

Not a lot of products make it to my HG list, but this one did! I find most non-tube lip balms difficult to apply at first because they’re tough as a rock, and I have to rub my finger around for a good 30 seconds before I can get any product. This one applied like a dream – soft as butter and not sticky at all. They also made my lips soft as butter, which is incredible in the winter time.

Epic Blend Lip Balm – $3.49

I raved about this product in my January BeautyBox 5 review, and this has become a staple at my office. No waxy film, just yummy coconut oil goodness. Much like the Dior Creme de Rose, this also melts on my lips as soon as I apply it, and my lips feel instantly hydrated. Unfortunately it lacks the long term moisturizing powers of the Dior Lip Glow, but for $3.49, this is a total steal.

Malin+Goetz Mojito Lip Balm – $12

I got this from my January Glam Bag, and I almost overlooked it due to its somewhat boring packaging (yes I know I shouldn’t judge a product by its packaging, but first impressions do matter!). I’m also not a fan of the squeeze tube, as I find it harder to control the amount and it just gets really messy.  No spillage issues with this one though, and I love the texture of this on my lips. It absorbs very quickly, and my lips are instantly softened and hydrated.

Yes the cold weather is a b**** on the lips, but with the right products, they can stay soft and crack-free, even when it’s -5 degrees with a 30 mph windshield. What are your favorite lip products for the winter season?

Based on your descriptions, the listed price for these items was worth it. I’m glad they worked nicely despite the cold. In my case, I just use a generic brand found at local Walgreen. That is until my 4th year of college when I decided to try something new. I’m sure you’ve heard of Burt’s Bees. I just use that. It’s cheap, and works very well IN IOWA! Of course, it’s much easier now that I’m back in Texas, but its efficacy during my times in Iowa is quite telling. xD

    1. Jenny says:

I’ve heard of Burt’s Bees before but I’ve never tried their lip products! It’s always great when you find a product that works well and doesn’t break your wallet :)

  2. Terri says:

I love the Dior Addict Lip Glow. I bought one a few years ago, and it’s still one of my favourites. My lips end up looking naturally pink and pretty, and it’s not greasy like some of the lip balms. I haven’t tried the other three you have, but they look pretty promising, too. :)

    1. Jenny says:

I agree – it’s not greasy, nor does it leave a waxy feeling on your lips :) If you like the Lip Glow I think you’ll like the creme de rose as well.

  3. Emily says:

The Dior lip creme looks really nice! I always go for the store brand stuff. I normally always use Burt’s Bees and the classic Chapstick, but I started using EOS lip balm recently. I love it! It comes in tons of different scents, and it’s only $3.

    1. Jenny says:

I’ve heard so many good things about EOS lip balms I must try it one of these days! Are there any differences between each of them, other than the scent?

  4. Cat says:

The first two are kind of pricey! I have been looking for something more moisturizing though, so it sounds like they’re worth it :) The last thing I tried were some Burt’s Bees stuff, and they just didn’t work for me. I’ll have to look into your recommendations!

Oh, and I also bought the DHC cleansing oil you mentioned before XD I just got it though, so I haven’t tried it yet.

    1. Jenny says:

If you do decide to try any of the Dior lip products, buy them at Sephora so that you can return it if you don’t love it :) It sounds like Burt’s Bees is either a hit or miss – a lot of other people were raving about it in the comments!

since I don’t live in a country with four seasons, i’m guessing lips tend to go dry and all peeling off (this sounds..weird and freaky i don’t think it’s the right way to describe it?) during winter..or is it? i remember my dad’s lips feeling like it’s being stabbed by the winter cold when we went to china during winter…and he quickly went to search for a lip balm.

i think i need one even if i’m living in a very warm country :P my lips are always dry despite not snowing haha but i get so lazy applying lip balms >__< they're mostly sticky too… ugh

nonetheless, i'm curious about the mojito lip balm. it'd be nice if a lip balm can have the flavor of an alcoholic beverage :P

    1. Jenny says:

Haha, the mojito lip balm actually smells and tastes nothing like mojito (sadly, lol), but it works well so that’s all that matters :) I think if you’re in a warmer or less dry climate most lip balms in drugstores will probably work well for you. During the summertime I tend to not be as picky, and I also tend to get lazier with my applications :P

  6. Melissa says:

The cold isn’t fun at all :( I’m always in pain with my chilblains. >_<

I don't think I'd buy them that fast since I do find them expensive, yet I trust you when you say they last long. :) I'm curious about them for sure. I wouldn't mind to try them out. For my lips I use the cocao butter lip balm or the blistex lip balm, they always helped me out during those cold days!

    1. Jenny says:

A lot of people swear by the blistex lip balms, but I’m not a fan of the scent, which I also find a bit too strong :( The cocoa butter one sounds like it’d smell delicious though!

  7. Amanda says:

Oh I absolutely hate cold weather on the skin :( I haven’t tried any products though. My lips are always dry as ever, but I’m thinking of looking into these products you suggested… especially the Dior Creme! :) It looks super cute. I actually like the non-tube packaging, heh.

I hope it works out just as well for me! Soft as butter definitely beats dry and chappy x_x

    1. Jenny says:

I love non-tube packages as well, but it’s always annoying getting product on your finger :/ The Dior Creme de Rose is definitely worth trying – you can always return it to Sephora if it doesn’t work out!

  8. June says:

I absolutely love the Dior products – I was given the “lip glow” as a present a couple months ago, and LOVE it! I’ve heard so many good things about the “rose” one, and always plan to get it at Sephora, but always forget haha. T-T

    1. Jenny says:

If you love the lip glow I think you’ll definitely love the Creme de Rose! Try it out at Sephora the next time you’re there!

  9. Oh no! It’s the Dior Creme de Rose back on the list again! Jenny, you’re being such an enabler – the price is a little scary to justify though but seeing how it is consistently at the top of most people’s list, I’m sooooo much closer to checking out with this!

    1. Jenny says:

Haha, it is featured on my Products I Love list, so you know I’ll be mentioning it a lot in my posts :P It’s definitely on the pricey side, so maybe pick it up at the next F&F or VIB sale? Or just try it out at Sephora and see how you feel about it – you might fall in love with it on the spot!

  10. Alexandra says:

Ahh I would love to try the Dior Creme de Rose, Ive heard so much about it! But its just so expensive.. Do you thing its worth investing in? Great post :) x

    1. Jenny says:

Personally I would repurchase it again, but I would only use this in the wintertime when my lips get super dry. My lips aren’t that bad during the warmer months, so I can get away using other lip balms and save up the Dior one ;) But like any beauty products, you never know if it’ll really work for you until you try it. Good luck!

  11. Ivy says:

I love lip balms! And a lot of lip products! I’ve heard so many great things about the DIOR CREME DE ROSE LIP BALM, however, it seems like a pricey price tag for the product. Is it really worth the money? :\

    1. Jenny says:

I think it’s worth the money because it’s one of the best lip balms I’ve come across that actually works during the winter months. If you have something that works well and is less expensive, then it might not make sense to buy this. But if you have yet to find something that works, I think it’s worth a try :)

  12. conniebea says:

I’ve been seeing so many reviews of the Dior Creme de Rose lip balm EVERYWHERE. It’s quickly making its way up my want list. My favorite lip balm at the moment is a the L’Oreal Paris Colour Le Balm in Nourishing Nude. I love its scent and color, not to mention the fact that it is incredibly moisturizing.

    1. Jenny says:

I’ve seen the L’Oreal Colour Le Balm in Nourishing Nude mentioned in so many blog posts and videos – I must try it out! How would you compare it to the Revlon Lip Butters in terms of moisturizing power?

  13. I’ve been looking for the perfect lip balm because you won’t find a person whose lips are more chapped than mine :) Thank you for the recommendations. I use vaseline and esos but I’d love to try all these x

    1. Jenny says:

As a fellow chapped-lip girl I must ask, how do you like the EOS lip balms? I’ve been thinking of buying them, but I already have more than enough products to last me through the next winter :P
